About Calm River Ranch

Founded 2022

How we started

Calm River Ranch is a small family ranch on 6 acres in Piedra, California.

We got our first two Nigerian Dwarf Goats in the spring of 2022, River and Lily. We became so fond of them and their sweet natured personalities that a few months later we looked for two more.

Growing the herd

We soon acquired a pair of siblings who we named Barney and Poppy. Barney is our only male, (a wether). He is by far the most inquisitive and fun little goat! Wethers are exceptionally affectionate and gentle. We often think of him more as our favorite dog because he is so sweet. Along with Barney we got his sister Poppy, another very gentle and good-natured goat. She remains the smallest of our herd.

Shortly after, we got Sierra and Blossom, another set of siblings. Beautiful does we have plans to breed soon.

Our herd keeps growing and we are so happy with them all.

More than just goats

This year we added hens! We wanted our own organic, free range chicken eggs. And we hit the jackpot with the amazing eggs we collect daily. Their eggs taste so pure and delicious! Our hens are all ISA Browns. The ISA are know for their high egg production. They are also friendly and enjoyable as pets. ISA Browns are considered "a reliable and versatile layer with excellent feed conversion which adapts well to different climates and housing systems."
